Job Description | Who We Are:
Brown WebServices is part of Brown University’s Computing and Information Services (CIS) Department. Brown WebServices builds the Brown web. Our goals are:- Manage and support Brown’s web infrastructure tools including the wikis, blogs, and web publishing environments.
- Support, collaborate with, and coordinate the efforts of web programmers and developers across campus.
- Design and Develop highly effective, custom websites for Brown offices, groups, and projects.
What You'll Do:
There will be room to learn and teach us a few things, but specifically, we'll need you to:- Assist Web Services Staff in rolling out the BrownSites (a CMS based on Drupal) as a service to Brown departments.
- Develop departmental sites in BrownSites.
- Perform Usability and Information Architecture Tests and report on test results. These tests determine if a website is easy to navigate/use and how to make it better.
- Design wireframes (stick-figure drawings that demonstrate the layout of a website).
- Draft and edit reports/presentations for departments on their website strategy. Report topics often include usability, navigation, and use of social media.
- Participate in Web Services Team activities including design/codefests, troubleshooting, debugging, and testing.

Job Requirements | - Demonstrated interest in web programming and Web Services' mission and goals.
- Strong organizational skills, flexibility, and creativity.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow through from start to finish.
- Professional email manner.
- Strong writing, research, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and in an office setting on a variety of tasks/projects.
- Strong Internet research skills
- Experience with Internet tools including a variety of web browsers, any web editor of choice, and web languages including XHTML, CSS, PHP.
- Experience with website usability, SEO, and tools such as OptimalSort, Treejack, Morae, Usabilla, ClickTail, Google Analytics, etc preferred, but not required.
- Experience with WordPress and/or Drupal preferred, but not required.
