Providence Pictures Seeking Interns

Providence Pictures is once again seeking interns, this time for both the summer and fall semesters.

Providence Pictures  produces high-quality TV documentaries for National Geographic, Discovery Channel, History Channel, and NOVA on PBS.  We are producing several new documentaries as well as launching a social media for social good initiative.  We are looking for innovative interns with a range of backgrounds and interests both in the subject  matter of our projects and in the process of media creation itself.

Research topics vary.  Our current projects focus on ancient history, architecture, anthropology, engineering, U.S. history, and forensic science, humanities and modern culture. We also are continuing our work on an engineering and city planning in ancient times series.

For summer internships, we ask for a minimum commitment of 12 hours per week and a minimum of eight hours during the fall semester. We also ask that they participate in a monthly development meeting with other staff and interns.

FISITA Student Travel Bursary

Apply for a FISITA Student Travel Bursary and you could get up to EUR 2000 financial support to help kick start your career in the automotive industry.

In today's global automotive industry, experience of working as an engineer in another country is extremely valuable. When it comes to applying the scientific knowledge learned in the lecture theatre, there is no substitute for experience: real vehicles, real people and real problems to solve.

FISITA offers student engineers the opportunity to apply for a travel bursary, of up to EUR 2000, to help with the costs of taking part in organised work placements (internships, exchange programmes etc.) in automotive companies and research institutions overseas.

Applications to the Travel Bursary Programme will be considered twice a year, with deadlines as follows:

• 31 March: for those attending placements April - October
• 31 October: for those applicants attending placements November - April.

How to apply

To be eligible to apply for an awards of up to EUR 2,000, you must:

• be studying engineering at undergraduate or postgraduate level at a recognised college oruniversity
• have arranged an industry or research placement in an automotive company or organisation overseas

M.E.I. Project Engineers (Shanghai) Summer 2011 Internship

Overview:

M.E.I.  Project Engineers is seeking two self-motivated students who is eager to apply their technical skills in an international environment.  Internship projects are best suited for seniors studying engineering (chemical, electrical, mechanical, instrumentation), with a strong interest in how their field of study interacts in a real-world context.  The internship experience will include, but is not limited to, the following three projects:

Chemical Factory:

Construction of a US $90 million chemical factory one hour outside of Shanghai is in progress and should be completed within 2 years.  When completed, the factory will make Linear Alkyl Benzene. As a joint venture company, staff members must be open to working in an environment dealing with staff from Indonesia, Korea, China, Singapore, France, Japan and others.
 
Wine Production Facility: Master Planning, Design and Project Management of a traditional Chinese wine production facility in Kunming. The same labor-intensive and very traditional methods to make Chinese white wine have been used for 260 years. The goal of this project is to modernize certain areas of the production process without changing the taste but increasing efficiency. 
 
Seamless Pipe Mill: A US pipe company owns 50% of a pipe mill in Yangzhou, manufacturing seamless pipes for the chemical, power, oil and gas industries. We anticipate placing interns at the factory for 2-4 weeks to understand how seamless pipes are produced.  The long-term goal is to understand the whole pipe manufacturing process and eventually to market these products to the key players in these industries globally.

Job Description:

Interns will begin paired with a senior technical engineer for job shadowing as an introduction to MEI.  Project work will include assisting with office duties, developing business plans, conducting internet research, writing reports, and documentation.  Interns will also partake in supervised visits to both constructions and steel mill sites.  Other duties may include engineering design calculations ro sourcing for equipment.

Qualifications:

The internship is open to seniors concentrating in engineering.  It is important for candidates to possess cultural sensitivity and the ability to adapt and work under diverse management styles.  Some Chinese speaking ability is preferred, but not required.  Students are encouraged to secure housing on their own.  If necessary, M.E.I. can assist with resources.  Interviews will be conducted via Skype.

University of Minnesota Innovation Fellows Program Medical Devices Center Seeking Applications

Application Deadline for 2011-12 Fellowship: April 18, 2011

The University of Minnesota Medical Innovation Fellows Program is sponsored by the UMN Medical Devices Center, part of the Institute for Engineering in Medicine. The University of Minnesota is recruiting a four person cross-disciplinary team consisting of postgraduate engineers, seasoned medical device professionals, bioscientists and physicians to collaborate in medical device product and development for the year. Applicants must be dedicated to the creation of new medical devices to improve human health and well being. Those with a special interest in medical technology development are encouraged to apply as are physicians in their residency or fellowship training.

Responsibilities:

• Identifying clinical needs, inventing, and creating and testing prototype solutions 
• Generating 15-20 patent disclosures related to medical devices or diagnostics
• Attending rotations/rounds at the University of Minnesota Academic Health Center and visiting the surrounding medical device industry
• Mentoring to engineering design student groups

Eligibility:

• Degree in engineering, medicine, or biosciences. Medical or doctorate degree preferred.
• Evidence of innovation 
• One or more years of research training required
